"Sprawl", metal machine frames, rubber, cement ,found and constructed objects, 7ft. x 6ft. x 3ft. - 2004
This piece is dirtier and looser than the other sculptures. It comes after the more precise assemblages of those made in 2003 and before. Up until this time I approached this type of work as Joseph Cornell did; assemblage takes years to finish and each object selected is chosen after years of trial and error. "Sprawl" reflects a more aggresive approach, which is much more freeing than the fussiness of the previous sculptures.
Religion is embeded in this work, as it was in much of my earlier work. Specific references and images of the abandoned juvenile hall project are present also. |
